5 year overnight success...

i am writing this post because i don't believe in overnight success.

i believe in work. i believe in people getting off their ass and going after what they really want in life. it takes great courage to go after your dreams. especially when you have doubt in your own heart. not doubt about whether you will succeed or not. but the kind of doubt one has about being able to handle the times that will be hard. because you know that times will get tough...it never fails for anything worth pursuing.

i usually see my dream car on the road when i think hard about what i want out of life. i mean...i just day dream really hard (fantasize about when "i make it")...and then...almost out of nowhere, there she is Porsche 911...i plan to buy one. CASH!!! from the hard work that i am putting in.

do i go hard everyday? i try but it's really tough, when you work a 9-5 and actually care about the work that you do, meaning: you give your day job its just do because it is feeding you AND you know that being grateful for a job in such a tough economy is a virtue and not a cop-out. plus the work that i actually do is very rewarding because i am giving back to those who have given more than most Americans will ever, can ever, imagine.

still...my weekends are filled with chasing the dream of being known as an ARTIST! known for my cinematic and picture capturing abilities. known for being a humble dude who was born wanting to be an artist like one of the great renaissance painters/sculptures...that's where my artist lineage derives from. it has nothing to do with wanting to be like anyone out now (no offense to any of the current greats because trust me...i respect craft)...

on my ipad is a picture of me and Swizz Beatz...i will never forget meeting him (took pictures at his brother's birthday party) because even after selling/producing over a hundred million records his weight in a room is as light as someone who never did anything. yet his presence can be felt GLOBALLY.

so when you check in on me, to see if wrote anything new or took any new cool pictures and you find yourself looking at a post from weeks ago, don't think that i am sleepin, or not going after mine. time away from shooting/directing/arranging is spent STUDYING.

i appreciate ALL the love that my encouragers give me. Really i do because i know that no matter how good i am and great that i (will) become at what i do, if no one knows it or appreciates it i will not have left a mark on this Earth that i plan to leave.

Nikki and Billie...fall 2012

as always....

that is a favorite saying that i share between my artist friends when they say, "you did the damn thang", or "i love that shot", or "wow, that's it right there"...when i say, "as always" it has nothing to do with arrogance or anything like it. simply, i am referring to the opportunity that i love taking advantage of.

when i get a chance to work with TALENTED people who understand the vision, grasp the concept, know how to move, passionate about what they deliver, cognizant of how they look, respond well to my verbal and facial ques...all i can do IS take a great picture. the models, makeup, stylist, art director, assistant (shout out to Dave), did the majority of the work.

needless to say i had a great time shooting this weekend. a nice warm sunday morning...that's right, you guessed it, getting it in.

below are a few of the behind the scenes shots. the ladies Billie and Nikki are always the bomb to work with and BOTH have AWESOME projects on the horizon. i love being around talented, motivated, and passionate people. i can do nothing BUT be inspired to give the best that i have to each shoot that involves people like the ones i had the privilege of working with today.

special shout out to Dave who is an aspiring photographer, videographer. we will be working together on future projects together. for one, i need help as the challenges grow (dedicated assistant) and two...well, he wants some experience. i am no master, by any means, but i have the heart to help others succeed in this craft. maybe one day he will be my direct competition. how AMAZING would that be???!?!! #soFlattered

right on for Dave taking my first "model group" shot.

Nikki!!!!! lmbo!

i get it in...

well now, if you have ever seen me work at catching the best shot during a shoot then you know that i can be somewhat of a "ninja" (as i have been called by one of my brides). ha!

it is always interesting at the end of a shoot to see the images that i have performed gymnastics to get. rarely, if ever, do i get an opportunity to see any footage of getting "THE" shot. i was pleasantly surprised by the shot that Jerome captured of me, doing a mini lunge, taking photos.

trust me by the end of the night/day i am barely able to walk and the next day...forget it, i just chill out and lounge around the house (loungeking).

i am also, always, flattered when i hear wedding attendees say, "Man you got some good shoots, or, Wow- you were EVERYWHERE, or, I didn't think you saw that (fill in the blanks) but when I looked up you had already captured the moment and moved on".  and almost always, none of the people who have said such things actually saw the shot on my camera, however, sometimes i do leave the image up on my screen and tilt the camera a little just in case someone wants to see as i walk past. i do this so that people don't think that i am moving like "like a ninja" for no reason and that i am actually documenting special and specific moments.

the craft of photography is something that helps me express myself through the subtleness of the image. i really feel like a ROCKSTAR when i am capturing images. this is mainly because the bride and groom (or whoever is paying the fee) has entrusted ME to capture this special once in a lifetime moment. that is an honor and gives me that much more of a push to be "all the way turned up", "put on", "on 5 trillion-million-billion", "on one", "on beast mode", and any other slogan that denotes being at the highest level of oneself. not that i get arrogant, not this is the contrary, i just get more focused and in tune with the task that everything else...just falls away. it is truly a surreal experience for me, EVERY time.

if you love what you do, DO IT!
